Denmark has the following regions:

Since January 1, 2007, Denmark has been divided into regions. This completely replaces the administrative divisions of the provinces. From the 271 municipalities at the time, 98 new municipalities have now been formed. The capital of Denmark is Copenhagen and with a total population of 5.7 million people it is a well-developed Western country.

Capital Region (Hovedstaden)

The capital of this region is Hillerød. The largest city is Copenhagen. This region is located in the northernmost part of the island of Zealand, which also includes the capital of Denmark. With a population of 1.8+ inhabitants, the capital is the most densely populated area of Denmark with the highest number of inhabitants. In addition to being the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen is also connected to Sweden via the Øresund Bridge that ends in the city of Malmö.

Zealand region

This region covers most of the Danish island of Zealand. This region also includes the islands of Lolland Falster and Møn. The capital of this region is Sorø.

Jutland

Jutland is a peninsula of mainland Europe. The northern part belongs to Denmark, the southern part to Germany. The Danish part consists of the regions of Central Jutland, Northern Jutland and Southern Denmark.

Central Jutland region

The name says it all; central Jutland is the middle part of the Jutland peninsula. The capital is Viborg and the largest city is Aarhus. These are both popular destinations for transportation in Denmark.

North Jutland region

As the name also indicates, this region covers the northernmost part of the Jutland peninsula. The capital is Aalborg and this is also the largest city in the region. Aalborg is also a port city and the fourth largest city in Denmark. It has good rail connections with Frederikshaven and Skagen and with rail lines to Germany, to the south, and Copenhagen in the east of Denmark.

Region South Denmark

The Southern Denmark region is located in the south of the Jutland peninsula and includes the island of Funen. This also includes the much smaller islands south of Funen. The capital of this region is Vejle and is located on the eastern side of Jutland.
